Malam Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), said this on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony for five mini LNG plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
According to Kyari, Tinubu has instructed the NNPCL to complete the project swiftly, demonstrating his administration’s focus on energy accessibility and affordability.
“The president has initiated moves to distribute cheap fuel through compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG),” a Persecondnews correspondent at the groundbreaking event quotes Kyari as saying.

“This project will benefit the host community, especially the Eastern and Northern parts of Nigeria, where work is ongoing to revamp the gas sector in this region.”

The NNPCL boss emphasized that the project aligns with the theme “From Gas to Prosperity: Catalyzing Nigeria’s Economic Growth.”

Gov. Usman Ododo of Kogi State assured the NNPCL of his administration’s support to sustain and maintain the economic value of the project.

“I have spoken to all the chiefs in the host community to uphold the mandate of President Tinubu in Ajaokuta.

“This is a strategic move in achieving clean energy and triggering industrial growth not just in Kogi State but in Nigeria as a whole,” he said.

The small-scale LNG project is a Greenfield NNPC Gas development initiative aimed at supporting the federal government’s policy on gas as the preferred energy transition fuel.

With Nigeria boasting the largest natural gas reserves in Africa, totaling approximately 5.94 trillion cubic meters, this project is poised to drive economic growth and provide affordable energy for Nigerians.
