Ipswich Town made history at Portman Road, securing their first Premier League home win of the season with a stunning 2-0 victory over Chelsea.
The Tractor Boys, who had been the only team without a home win this season, rode their luck at times but showed tremendous spirit and determination to claim all three points.
The match was marked by Chelsea’s mistakes, with goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen’s foul on Liam Delap leading to a penalty in the 10th minute.
Delap made no mistake, slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner to give Ipswich a 1-0 lead.
Chelsea pushed hard for an equalizer, but Ipswich’s defense held firm, and they took their lead into halftime.
The second half saw Chelsea continue to dominate possession, but Ipswich’s counter-attacks proved to be decisive.
A mistake by Chelsea’s makeshift right-back Axel Disasi allowed Delap to pounce on the ball, and he set up Omari Hutchinson for a stunning second goal.
Hutchinson’s acrobatic celebration said it all, as Ipswich sealed a famous victory.
Chelsea’s defeat marks their third consecutive away loss, and manager Enzo Maresca will be left to ponder what might have been.
The Blues’ changes, including starting Jorgensen in goal and Disasi at right-back, backfired, and they paid the price for their mistakes.
Ipswich, on the other hand, can bask in the glory of their first top-flight victory at Portman Road since April 2002.
