Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed deep concerns about the club’s potential failure to qualify for the Champions League, citing the financial and sporting implications of missing out of Europe’s premier competition.

Speaking ahead of City’s Boxing Day clash against Everton, Guardiola emphasized the fierce competition for European spots and admitted that City’s current struggles reflect deeper issues.

Guardiola’s comments come as City sit seventh in the Premier League table,, four points behind fourth-placed Nottingham Forest.

The club has competed in the Champions League for 14 consecutive seasons, but their current form has raised serious concerns about their ability to qualify for next season’s competition.

Despite Guardiola’s confidence in his team’s ability to turn their season around, he acknowledged that City’s current struggles are a cause for concern.

“If we don’t qualify, it is because we don’t deserve it. Because we were not prepared, because we had a lot of problems and didn’t solve those problems and find a way to win games,” he said.

Guardiola also revealed that he feels supported by City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, sporting director Txiki Begiristain, and chief executive Ferran Soriano, despite the club’s poor form.

“Every week we talk. I feel incredibly supported. We behaved like this in the first season maybe but it was completely different [when City won nothing],” he said.

With City eyeing fifth place as a potential lifeline for Champions League qualification, Guardiola remains concerned about their current standing.

The manager emphasized the need for immediate improvement, warning that City’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread.
