University community in shock as lecturer falls victim to gunmen’s bullets

Tragedy struck in Awka, Anambra State, on Monday night when Dr. Fabian Chinedu, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, was shot dead by gunmen.

The incident occurred about 10:10 p.m. along Aroma Junction, where the attackers attempted to snatch Chinedu’s car.

When he resisted, they opened fire, killing him on the spot before driving off his vehicle.

The Anambra Police Command has confirmed the incident and begun investigating the killing.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, has commiserated with Chinedu’s family, friends, and the university management.

The police are urging anyone with useful information to come forward and aid the investigation, he said.

“The command also urges members of the public who might have seen the vehicle or any abandoned vehicle with similar description to report to the closest police station.”
