Ghana Electoral Commission Confirms Mahama President-Elect

Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa on Monday 9 December 2024 officially former President John Mahama of the opposition NDC as President-elect and winner of the 7 December election.

Ruling NPP’s candidate Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has already conceded defeat.

The EC Chair said the declaration was based on results from 267 of the 276 Constituencies, adding that the final results would not change even if all 947,116 votes from the nine outstanding constituencies were added to the second-placed candidate.

John Mahama NPP – 6,328397 (56.55%)

Bawumia NPP – 4,657,304 (41.61%)

Total Valid votes – 11,191422

Rejected votes – 239,109

Total Votes cast – 11,430,531

Registered voters – 18,744,159

Turnout – 60.9%
