The Football Association is about to name Thomas Tuchel as the permanent replacement for Gareth Southgate as the manager of England.
Reports state that the 51-year-old German has inked a contract and will make his debut at a press conference at Wembley as early as Wednesday.
Tuchel, who led Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2021, has been in advanced talks with the FA since last month.
Chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott have been instrumental in securing the highly experienced manager.
The appointment marks a significant coup for the FA, which had also considered Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola for the role.
Tuchel’s credentials, including stints at Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, made him an attractive candidate.
Tuchel will become the third non-Englishman to hold the position, following Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
His arrival means Lee Carsley, currently interim manager, will remain in charge for next month’s Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
The FA had emphasized that nationality was not a factor in their recruitment process, prioritizing the best person for the job.
Tuchel’s appointment is expected to bring stability and expertise to the England team.
