Randy Waldrum, an American tactician, has resigned as head coach of the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s football team.
Waldrum, 67, cited his wife’s ill health as the reason for his resignation in a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday.
In his resignation letter, Waldrum said: “It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues and the worries that obviously come with that.
“After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons.
” This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”
Waldrum, who was appointed coach of the Super Falcons on October 5, 2020, achieved significant success with the team during his four-year tenure.
He qualified the team for the 2023 World Cup, where they reached the Round of 16, and the 2024 Olympic Games, ending a 16-year absence from the quadrennial event.
Waldrum’s resignation comes ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, scheduled to hold from July 5 to 26, 2025.
The NFF will now have time to search for a suitable replacement to lead the team in the tournament.
The NFF has not yet commented on Waldrum’s resignation.
According to Persecondnews, the search for a new coach will soon begin.
