Ayomide is suspected to have killed Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, after abducting her.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a message he shared on his X handle.
He wrote: “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to #LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade #HQNigerianArmy.
“The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400 hrs. Investigation is ongoing.”
Earlier, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, spokesperson for the 81 Division Nigerian Army, verified Ayomide’s arrest in a statement obtained by a Persecondnews correspondent.
Ayeni said: “Yes. I am aware about the issue. We arrested him, and the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army will be handing him over to the Lagos State Police Command today, so you can liaise with them for further information.”
According to Persecondnews, on Monday, August 19, 2024, suspected kidnappers abducted Christiana along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos State.
A family source told Persecondnews that the abductors first demanded a ransom of N3 million, which they later lowered to N350,000. Despite this payment, they still refused to release the kidnapped student.
FUNAAB’s student union’s president, Ibrahim Adeyemi, confirmed the tragic death of Christiana in a phone call on Thursday.
He said: “We can confirm that she was allegedly murdered by her abductor; we will be releasing a statement on the matter shortly.”
