Olusakin Babalola, erstwhile News Editor, defunct Sketch newspaper, is dead

The Nigerian media has lost another veteran and former News Editor of the defunct Sketch newspaper, Mr. Olusakin Babalola.

Aged 73, Babalola died in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Wednesday, August 21.

On Thursday, when Persecondnews called the editor’s phone number, his widow, Mrs. Adesola Babalola, answered and confirmed his death, stating that an illness had prostrated him.

He marked his 73rd birthday on August 10 amid the illness.

A committed Christian, Babalola was ordained a deacon in his church Ibadan.

Babalola, a native of Ipetumodu in the Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, attended Origbo Grammar School in town and the Polytechnic in Ibadan, where he obtained an HND in mass communication.

The deceased, who was once the editor of Oodua News newspaper, Ibadan, had worked for some national dailies, including Newswatch Daily, Leadership newspaper, and Legit.com, an online news platform.
