999

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the 22nd Chief Justice of Nigeria, has formally bowed out of office, having attained the statutory retirement age of 70.

Born on August 22, 1954, Justice Ariwoola’s retirement marks the end of a distinguished judicial career.

The appointment of Ariwoola to the Supreme Court bench on November 22, 2011, and his subsequent appointment as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria on June 27, 2022, following Justice Tanko Muhammad, marked a significant turning point in his judicial career.

The Nigerian Senate confirmed his appointment as CJN on September 21, 2022.

As the Supreme Court prepares to celebrate Justice Ariwoola’s retirement, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun from Lagos might succeed him as Chief Justice of Nigeria.
