President Bola Tinubu will today, August 13, at noon, convene the inaugural Council of State meeting under his administration.

The council, which comprises the President as Chairman and the Vice President as Deputy Chairman, is made up of former Heads of State and Presidents, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The Council of State is an organ of the federal government saddled with the responsibility of advising the executive on policymaking.

Expected topics of discussion at the noon meeting include food security, national security, and economic policies.

The meeting is taking place after the 10-day #EndBadGovernanceProtests, a violent event that resulted in property destruction and fatalities.

The last council of state meeting was held on February 10, 2023, under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari had convened the meeting over the 2023 elections, the crisis that followed the new naira policy, and fuel scarcity.
