Nigeria’s Edose Ibadin missed out in the semifinals of the men’s 800m, finishing 7th in his repechage heat on Thursday at the Paris Olympics.
Persecondnews reports that a repechage is a heat that gives first-round losers a second opportunity to make the semi-finals by allowing all competitors who did not directly advance from the heats an extra qualification race to progress in the competition.
In the ongoing Paris Olympics, it is being used at every track distance, from the 100m and 110m hurdles up to the 1500m.
The Nigerian record holder finished 7th in his repechage heat with a time of 1:49.09 and won’t progress to the next round.
With a time of 1:45.52, Botswana’s Kethobogile Haingura took the automatic spot.
