Mr. Philips Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, disclosed on Friday his unofficial affiliation with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shaibu said his formal exit from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is pending, pointing out that is the only reason he remains affiliated with the party.
When asked about his support for the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in Edo during his appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show program on Friday, the deputy governor replied that his ‘heart and soul’ were no longer with the PDP.
He said: “In the PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”
Shaibu further claimed that he had attempted to reach out to his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, on numerous occasions.
According to Shaibu, he has made over 100 calls to the governor since the start of the state’s political crisis, but the governor has consistently ignored his calls and failed to respond.
