The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday plans to roll out a new curriculum for secondary schools across the country, effective September 2024.

Tahir announced this during the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy meeting that is currently taking place in Abuja.

He said: “We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September.”

Mamman noted that the process has been in progress for the past 12 months, with a scheduled stakeholder engagement for August 6, 2024.

“It is our plan that by September, this programme will be implemented in all schools, public and private,” he said.

According to Persecondnews, the National Secondary School Education Commission (NSSEC) recently expressed concern over the appalling condition of senior secondary schools nationwide.

NSSEC urges collective action to address the numerous challenges plaguing the country’s secondary education sector.

The commission listed some of the challenges confronting the sector, including the infrastructural deficit, unqualified teachers, obsolete curriculum, and deplorable libraries and laboratories.
