Barring a last-minute change, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to send the new National Minimum Wage Bill to the National Assembly next week.
The president will send the executive bill to the NASS for consideration after a meeting with the organized labour leadership on Thursday to discuss the minimum wage issue.
The Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage presented two different proposals to the president due to a deadlock among stakeholders.
The government and private sector proposed N62,000, while labour demanded N250,000.
Tinubu, upon receipt of the committee’s report, had promised to meet with the relevant stakeholders to harmonize the figure before transmitting the executive bill to NASS.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, chaired by the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was followed by a briefing from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris.
Idris told reporters that the president intends to transmit the executive bill to the NASS after meeting with organized labour representatives on Thursday.
The minister also announced that the executive will submit a revised version of the 2024 budget, which he referred to as an amendment, to the National Assembly.
This revision aims to accommodate the new minimum wage as well as address other related matters.
