A former Chief of Defence Staff, retired Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, is dead.

Aged 75, Ogohi died during a brief illness in the early hours of Sunday in Abuja.

In a statement on Sunday, the Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Commodore Adams-Aliu, confirmed the death of the general.

Also, the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, confirmed the demise of Ogohi in a terse statement, disclosing that the former defence chief died in the early hours of Sunday at his Abuja home.

He said: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun. With deep sorrow, I announce the death of Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (retd.), a former Chief of Defence Staff (1999–2003).

“He passed on in Abuja in the early hours of today. More details will be communicated later.”
