Defence Minister Mohamed Badaru Abubakar has said that the creation of the Maritime Security Unit under the Deep Blue Project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Abubakar said that the agenda aims to ensure the safety and security of Nigeria’s waterways and protect its territorial integrity.

The Minister said this in a keynote address at the graduation ceremony of the Maritime Security Unit of the Deep Blue Project at the 5 Battalion Nigerian Army in Elele, Rivers State, on Thursday.

Abubakar charged the maritime officers to be fully equipped and prepared to tackle the myriad of challenges facing the nation’s waterways, including illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism, piracy, illegal fishing, and trespassing, among other criminal activities.

The Minister expressed his confidence that the graduates, having undergone rigorous combat training, will effectively address these security challenges, thereby contributing to the peace and economic growth of our great nation.

While congratulating the graduating maritime security officers, the minister also extended appreciation to the Minister of Maritime and Blue Economy, NIMASA, and the training facilitators, acknowledging their unwavering dedication and commitment to the success of the programme.
