Timileyin’s murder: 25 Ajayi Crowther Varsity students arraigned, remanded in Ibadan prison

According to Persecondnews, Timileyin passed away following hours of beatings in the Shepherd Inn hostel on the university grounds.

Twenty-five students of Ajayi Crowther University have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, over the murder of Alex Timileyin, a student of the institution.

The students, accused of killing Timileyin for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, have been remanded in prison until July 8.

According to Persecondnews, Timileyin passed away following hours of beatings in the Shepherd Inn hostel on the university grounds.

The accused are:. Kumolu Opeyemi Daniel (21), Oluwole Olanshile Thompson, Lawal Victor Tomilola (23), Omolakin Oluwatomiwa Anthony, Folorunsho Oluwakunmi (21), Bolarinwa Oloruntoyinbo Victor (20), Oladoye Femi Ola (34), Kehinde Olasusuyi Martins, Okorie Samuel (20), Mustapha Khalid (23), Mustapha Usman Segun (19), Adeniran Yusuf (20), and Oloyede Femi (18).

Others are Areye Joseph Aduragbemi (19), Oyelakin Tyanuoluwatomiwa (18), Olalekan Obaloluwa (20), Adejumobi Emmanuel (18), Daudu John Oluwaseun (18), Gana Solomon (21), Moses Abiola (20), Tijani Hammad (21), Omon-Fumen Jenkins (21), Okay-Aroh Gerald (20), Kolawole David (22) and Afesojaye Emmanuel (18).

The students, along with others still at large, are accused of conspiring to commit murder on May 24, 2024, at around 9:00 p.m. at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo, in contravention of Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The offence carries a penalty upon conviction.

“COUNT II: That you, KUMOLU OPEYEMI DANIEL ‘M’, OLUWOLE
OLANSHILE THOMPSON ‘M’, LAWAL VICTOR TOMILOLA ‘M’, OMOLAKIN OLUWATOMIWA ANTHONY ‘M’, FOLORUNSHO OLUWAKUNMI ‘M’, BOLARINWA OLORUNTOBA VICTOR ‘M’, OLADOYE FEMI OLA ‘M’, KEHINDE OLABUSUYI MARTINS ‘M’, OKORIE SAMUEL ‘M’, MUSTAPHA KHALID ‘M’, MUSTAPHA USMAN SEGUN ‘M’, ADENIRAN YUSUF ‘M’, OLOYEDE FEMI ‘M’, AREOYE JOSEPH ADURAGBEMI ‘M’, OYELAKIN IYANUOLUWAPO ‘M’, OLALEKAN OBALOLUWA ‘M’, ADEJUMOBI EMMANUEL ‘M’, DAUDU JOHN OLUWASEUN ‘M’, GANA SOLOMON ‘M’, MOSES ABIOLA ‘M’, TIJANI HAMMAD ‘M’ OMON-FUMEN JENKINS ‘M’, OKAY-AROH GERALD ‘M’, KOLAWOLE DAVID ‘M’, AFESOJAYE EMMANUEL ‘M’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully cause the death of one AKRO JEFRY ‘M’ AGE 22YRS by beating him with planks and electrical wire all over his body and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

“COUNT III: That you OLADOVE FEMI OLA ‘M’ and KEHINDE OLABUSUYI
MARTINS ‘M’, on the 24th day of May, 2024, at about 9:00 p.m., at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo in the Oyo Magisterial District triable in the Ibadan Magisterial District, conspired with one another to commit felony to wit: acceleration of death and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oya State of Nigeria, 2000.

“COUNT IV: That you OLADOVE FEMI OLA ‘M’ and KEHINDE OLABUSUYI MARTINS ‘M’, on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, being the security guard and Porter employed by the University did unlawfully omit to rescue one AKRO JEFRY ‘M’ AGE 22YRS from other aggrieved students who beat him to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 311 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.”

A prominent activist from the Itsekiri community in the Warri Kingdom, Delta State, who goes by the moniker ‘Lord of Warri’, took to his X account on Wednesday to express his delight and satisfaction with the recent development.

He said: “Today, June 5th, 25 students were arraigned in court in connection with the tragic murder of Prince Alex Timileyin, a son of the Warri Kingdom and a student at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.

“The court has remanded them in prison until July 8th, pending trial.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Oyo State Government and the Oyo State Police Command in pursuing justice and ensuring that the perpetrators are held accountable.

“We await the trial and expect that justice will be served in its entirety.”
