Landlord slumps, dies during heated argument with tenant over rent arrears

Benjamin Apeh, a landlord in Ogun State, allegedly suffered a fatal collapse during a heated dispute with his tenant over outstanding rent.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday at Arigbabu Village, Sotubo, in the state’s Sagamu local government area.

The landlord was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Mortuary, Sagamu.

In a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the spokeswoman of the State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, saying that Precious Apeh, the victim’s daughter, reported a suspected murder on Monday at 5:00 p.m.

The deceased’s daughter stated that on Saturday at 7:20 p.m., her father had a dispute with the tenant regarding overdue rent.

According to Odutola, Precious Apeh also told the police that she overheard her father and the tenant arguing again on Sunday at 6:30 a.m., during which the tenant made a threat against her father’s life.

Odutola stated:”During the argument, Apeh collapsed and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“The suspect fled the scene, but efforts are underway to apprehend him.

“The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue, Sagamu.”
