Just in: Protest breaks out over disbanded Kano Emirate

Protesters are currently on the streets of Gaya, one of the five emirates affected by the repealed Kano Emirates Council Law.
Persecondnews learnt that after the dethroned Emir vacated the palace at midnight on Thursday, there was no sign of any form of violence or resistance in the town due to the heavy security presence.
But on Sunday morning, hell seemed to let loose as residents marched to the streets to protest the emirate’s dissolution.
The protesters were holding placards and chanting anti-government songs.
The protesters, through their songs, are alleging injustice, saying that the emirate’s dissolution has a political undertone.
Persecondnews recalls that the Kano State House of Assembly repealed the law that ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje used to dethrone Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II in 2020.
Gov. Abba Yusuf, while assenting to the law on Thursday, announced the dissolution of the four extra emirates created by Ganduje.
The governor also directed all the monarchs, including Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, Emir of Gaya, to hand over to Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Deputy Governor, who oversees the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
