Barely three weeks after a Dana aircraft overshot the runway at Lagos airport, another aeroplane—a medium-range Embraer 145 belonging to a premium services provider, Xejet Airlines—skidded off the same runway on Saturday.

Xejet Airlines is a business-class-only airline based in Nigeria, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

The aircraft that took off in Abuja with registration no. 5NBZZ had 52 passengers on board with three crew members.

According to reports, the plane crashed into the grassy sections of Runway 18 to the left of the airport about 11:30 a.m.

The Aerodrome Fire and Safety Rescue Unit of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has deployed its personnel to the scene of the incident to rescue the passengers.

Following the incident, the runway has remained closed.
