A statement released in Lagos by Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer for the Committee said the NOC was extremely pleased and greatly impressed with each and every member of Team Nigeria for their impressive performance at the Games.

The NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel, said the team’s overall second place finish—which consisted of 121 medals, including 47 gold, 34 silver, and 40 bronze—was the result of their commitment and diligence.

“Your exceptional achievements and unwavering dedication during these Games have brought immense pride and glory to our nation.

“The 13th African Games hold a special place in history as it is the first time since the commencement of the Games in 1965 that they have been held in three cities – Kumasi, Cape Coast and Accra.

“This unique and momentous occasion provided a platform for athletes from across the continent to showcase their talent and camaraderie.

“While Team Nigeria secured a commendable second place overall, behind Egypt, it is your outstanding accomplishments and relentless pursuit of excellence that truly captured our hearts,’ said Gumel in the statement.

According to NOC, the team had demonstrated unwavering dedication, resilience, and the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition.

“We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the athletes, coaches, and Nigerian sports journalists who have worked harmoniously to ensure the success of the Games.

“Your tireless efforts, commitment, and cooperation have contributed to the seamless organisation and smooth execution of the events, leaving an indelible mark on the Games’ history.

“We must also acknowledge and thank the government, particularly the Minister of Sports, Sen. John Owan Enoh, for his relentless support and commitment to ensuring the welfare of the athletes and officials.

“His unwavering dedication and efforts to fulfil his promises reflect his genuine concern for Nigerian athletes and their well-being,’’ it said.
