Economic hardship, insecurity: Tinubu in emergency meeting with 36 state governors

The meeting had in attendance Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Yusuf Bichi.

President Bola Tinubu held an emergency meeting with the 36 state governors on Thursday at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

The meeting is believed to be about the rising cost of food items, insecurity, and other economic issues ravaging the country.

The meeting had in attendance Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Yusuf Bichi.

Others are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume; the National Security Adviser, retired AIG Nuhu Ribadu; and the President’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Governors present include those of Yobe, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Imo, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun, Enugu, Ekiti, Delta, Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Nasarawa, Edo, Yobe, Niger, Kogi, Enugu, Jigawa, Yobe, Benue, and Lagos.

However, Delta, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kano were represented by Deputy Governors.

President Tinubu is expected to depart Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, later today to attend African Union Heads of Government summit.
