Breaking: Ex-CBN boss, Emefiele, gets reprieve, breathes air of freedom

Last minute push by the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to get out prison before Christmas and New Year has yeilded results as he finally met his bail conditions and has been released from the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.

Emefiele, who is being prosecuted over a N1.2 billion procurement fraud and other cases, was released on Friday, Persecondnews reports.

“I can confirm to you that he (Emefiele) has met his bail conditions, hence he has no reason to remain in our facility. He met his bail condition and was released past 2pm yesterday (Friday),” spokesman for the Correctional Centre, Mr Adamu Duza, confirmed on Saturday.

Justice Hmaza Muazu of a Federal High Court, Abuja, had granted N300 million bail to Emefiele with two sureties in like sum who should have titles of properties in Maitama, Abuja.

He was, however, taken back to custody following his failure to fulfill the bail conditions.
