Just in: Senate swears in PDP’s Sen. Yohanna as APC’s Sen. Abbo’s replacement

"The Deputy Senate President has sworn in Amos Yohanna to replace the court-sacked Elisha Abbo"

Sen. Fibrin Barau, the Deputy Senate President, has sworn in Sen. Amos Yohanna to replace the sacked Sen. Elisha Abbo, as the new senator representing Adamawa North in the nation’s upper chamber.

Yohanna of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the valid winner of the disputed Senatorial election of February 25, 2023 after an appellate court in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices, vacated the tribunal judgment that earlier affirmed Abbo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the valid winner.

It held that there was merit in the appeal that was lodged by the candidate of PDP in the election, Amos Yohanna.

Persecondnews recalls that INEC had declared Abbo the winner of the election.

Not satisfied by the electoral body’s results, both the PDP and Yohanna challenged Abbo’s victory at the Appeal Court..
