“We cannot talk about anti-corruption when you have to look for cash to buy a car, when there is no mortgage for homeownership”

It is cheering news for students in the nation’s tertiary institutions as the President Bola Tinubu administration’s student loans scheme will commence January 2024.

President Tinubu gave the indication on Monday while addressing the 29th edition of the annual Nigerian Economic Summit anchored by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Persecondnews recalls that the President had on June 12, 2023 signed the Students Loans Bill to enable Nigerian students to access loans at interest-free rates. ⁣⁣

Tinubu also said the era of strikes or shutting down of the nation’s higher institutions was over with the inauguration of the loans scheme.

Speaking on his administration’s plans to stabilise the economy in collaboration with all stakeholders especially the private sector, Tinubu also disclosed the introduction of a sustainable credit scheme for Nigerians and workers.

This, he said, will give fillip to the country’s anti-corruption war.

Tinubu said: “By January 2024, the new students loans programme must commence. To the future of our children and students we are saying no more strikes.

“There must be consumer credit scheme will have to come to effect as soon as possible. I thank my team and my colleagues to build this programme, develop it now.
