Russia signs military deals with 40 African nations

Over 40 African nations and Russia have signed agreements for military cooperation, Russian President Vladimir Putin has disclosed.

Putin, who made the announcement at the Russia-Africa Summit, in St Petersburg on Friday, said developing partnerships in military and military-technical cooperation with more than 40 African countries will enhance the security and sovereignty of the countries.

Putin said Russia would provide assistance to the countries in their efforts to free themselves from the “vestiges of colonialism.”

He said: “We are developing partnerships in military and military-technical cooperation with more than 40 African states to strengthen the defense capabilities of the countries.

“African states received a wide range of weapons and technology, some for free.
“Some of these deliveries are provided on a gratuitous basis with the aim of enhancing the security and sovereignty of the countries.”

The Kremlin leader reiterated that Russia would continue to be a reliable supplier of grain to the continent’s countries.

Persecondnews reports that Nigeria’s Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, is currently representing President Bola Tinubu at the ongoing second Russia-Africa economic and humanitarian forum which commenced on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

The summit is focused on strategizing to enhance relations between Russia and the African continent, among other benefits.
