After 20 years sojourn in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has resigned his membership of the House.

Persecondnews reports that Gbajabiamila, the immediate past Speaker of the House, was re-elected in the February 25, 2023 National Assembly poll as the representative of Surulere Federal Constituency.

However, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as his Chief of Staff with effect from June 14 (today), after the inauguration of the 10th Assembly yesterday he had to give up the seat.

A bye-election will be held by INEC to fill the vacancy.

Gbajabiamila’s resignation was conveyed in a letter to the House through his successor, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas at Wednesday’s plenary.

The former Speaker, who was first elected into the House in 2003, had remained in the federal parliament for 20 years.
