A ghastly sexual crime has been reported in Ondo State involving a Togolese farm hand, who snuffed his landlady, a nurse in an attempt to rape her in her room in the tenement building.
The name of the 29-year-old Togolese man was given as Mustapha Gbegele.
He allegedly carried out a sneak attack on his 58-year-old landlady and nurse, Adijat Olaoye, apparently when other tenants must have left the house.
The incident, according to a report reaching Persecondnews, occurred at Fanibi area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Police said they have apprehended the Togolese labourer and would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
In another development, an 80-year-old grandmother, Felicia Aderibigbe, was allegedly raped and killed on her farm in Costain Community in Ore axis of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The octogenarian was raped and killed by one of the farm hands she engaged, 27-year-old Mima Chinecherem.
Police Commissioner Taiwo Jesubiyi said the two alleged murderers would be prosecuted in court soon.
He also said 16 other suspects who have been arrested for various crimes would face the full weight of the law.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Funmi Odunlami-Omisanya, who spoke on behalf of the commissioner, said seven suspected cultists have also been apprehended in connection with the recent cult killings in Owo, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu’s town.
“Based on the dreadful activities of cultists in Owo and its environs, the command organized raids of affected areas, led by Area Commander Owo.
“The teams, which included all tactical teams, busted their hideouts, where the following suspects were arrested.
“The arrested suspects are Fadaunsi Monday (27), Oluwafemi Ajayi (34), Adewale Monday (22), Olopona Olamide (27), Ifedayo Michael (20), Isiaka Jimoh (30), and Olatunji Ojo (35),” she said.
