After a four-day sojourn in the kidnappers’ den, a former Nasarawa State Ex-Deputy Governor, Prof. Onje Gye-Wado, has breathed air of freedom.

Persecondnews gathered that the bandits, who abducted Gye-Wado at Rinza in Wamba Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, April 6, had demanded N70 million ransom.

Confirming his release, the state police spokesman, DSP Ramham Nansel, said on Monday morning: “He was released around 9pm yesterday (Sunday), due to sustained pressure from the search and rescue team. No ransom was paid.”

But the family members insisted that a ransom of about N4 million was paid for his freedom.

The kidnappers who invaded Gwagi community in Wamba Local Government Area of the state last Friday and abducted Gye-Wado, had earlier demanded a N70 million ransom.

A family source said: “They (abductors) collected the ransom of about N4 million near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga LGA, with N200 recharge card, then he was released on Sunday night near Angwan chiyawa, close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon LGA.

“After his release, Prof Gye-Wado was taken to the palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, who is the Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, where he reunited with other members of his community.”

Onje Gye-Wado had served as Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2003.
