Bowing to pressure, the embattled National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, has stepped down.
Persecondnews reports that this followed his suspension by his Ward in Benue State and a court order asking him to stop parading himself as chairman pending the determination of the suit against him before the court.
The G-5 Governors of the party led by Rivers Gov. Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) had battled Ayu on the retention of his seat as chairman, insisting that he should resign to pave way for a Southerner as chairman.
They insisted that the party’s constitution should be obeyed that the North cannot produce the presidential candidate and the national chairman.
