President Muhammed Buhari on Tuesday made a special plea to the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to review the blanket visa ban imposed on Nigerians intending to travel to the UAE.
Buhari made the plea in a telephone conversation with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to condole with him on the demise of his mother-in-law, Shikha Maryam Al Falasi.
He expressed the readiness of the Nigerian Government to sanction appropriately anyone found wanting in the UAE and also urged the security/Intelligence unit of both countries to come up with policy to curb criminalities and illegalities.
The President seized the occasion to highlight the economic benefits including engagements at the highest political stage amongst others, as reasons why relationship between both countries should be strengthened, Presidential spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, said in a statement given to Persecondnews.
Buhari also assured his UAE counterpart that the uncultured behavior of some Nigerians in the UAE will be ironed out.
In August 2022, Emirates Airlines had suspended flight operations to Nigeria due to its $85 million blocked revenue in Nigeria.
The Nigerian leader had promised the UAE President that the funds of the Emirates Airlines and other foreign airlines operating in Nigeria is receiving appropriate attention.
Buhari, however, urged him to reconsider the suspension of flight activities by Emirates Airline to Nigeria.
