The People’s Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council Director in Rivers State, Dr Abiye Sekibo has escaped an assassination in the politically turbulent state.

According to reports, an attempt to assassinate Sekibo was made on Thursday night when he went to inspect the venue of the party’s presidential rally at the Rainbow Town Port Harcourt.

Sekibo, a former minister, while speaking to newsmen on his lucky escape, accused Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike for sponsoring the attempt to eliminate him.

He said he spotted some police Hilux vans attached to the Governor of Rivers State during the failed attempt to assassinate him.

He said the venue of the rally was set on fire under the watch of some policemen.

“The policemen watched without doing anything before while the venue of the rally was being set on fire and opening fire at my bulletproof Land Cruiser.

“As we approached the site, those policemen who were watching the inferno opened fire on our vehicle.

“I looked at the Hilux vehicles, they were police Hilux vehicles attached to the Governor of Rivers State,” Sekibo said.
