Following the gruesome murder of a Lagos female lawyer, Mrs Bolanle Raheem on Christmas day, the killer-Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Drambi Vandi, is to be suspended.
Vandi had shot and killed the pregnant woman under Ajah bridge on the Lekki-Ajah Expressway on December 25 by the blood thirsty ASP.
Recommending the immediate suspension of the cop, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, said the suspension would subsist pending receipt of a detailed report on the incident.
According to him, the recommendation is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the police force.
“The IGP further noted that the suspension is also expected to create an enabling environment for necessary legal procedures to uphold justice in the case without interference.
“The suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer.
“Meanwhile, the IGP has reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to the rule of law and assured the public of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that justice is not just done but seen to have been manifestly done in the matter,” the IGP said in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, given to Persecondnews.
Baba urged the public to be calm, saying all hands are on deck to ensure that justice prevails.
“Measures have been put in place to prevent future occurrences.”
