More than 20 gunmen in the wee-hours of Monday launched another devastating attack on the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State with three of them felled by police repelling bullets.
The hoodlums, who swooped on the state INEC headquarters in a convoy of about five vehicles on Port Harcourt road, had shot sporadically and indiscriminately heralding them.
Persecondnews learnt that the attack which was carried out between 2.00 am and 3 00 am saw the Election and Political Party Monitoring Liaison building and part of the main building in office burnt.
Vehicles were also set ablaze by the hoodlums.
A repelling force from the State Police Command engaged the hoodlums in a gun-duel that left three of them killed.
The local government office in Orlu in the state was recently razed by gunmen while several INEC offices in the Southeast, Southwest and other parts of the country had been attached.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the command, ASP Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji, said the attack occurred between 2.00am and 3.00 am Tuesday.
She said: “It happened. You can come and see things for yourself. Not all the offices were attacked but one side was completely down.
“The Election and Political Party Monitoring Liaison, building was attacked and part of the main building.”
She said three of the gunmen were felled by the police who were drafted in to repel the attack.
