President Muhammed Buhari will on Tuesday perform the official ground breaking ceremony of the oil prospecting lease in Bauchi and Gombe States.

By the discovery and prospecting of crude at OPLs 809 and 810 at the
Kolmani River 11 wells in both states, Bauchi and Gombe have become the first oil-producing states from North- East part of the country.

Persecondnews reports that on October 2019, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) announced the discovery of crude oil, gas and condensate in the Kolmani River.

The Kolmani River 11 oilfield is located at a border community between Bauchi and Gombe states.

The oilfield will be developed by Sterling Global oil, New Nigeria Development Commission ( NNDC ) and the NNPC.

About one billion barrels of crude oil have been discovered there. The commercial quantity was the first in the region after several oil exploitation in the Upper Benue Trough.

A 50,000-capacity refinery and 150MW power plant will be built close to the sites as Nigeria will be focusing on local refining of crude.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the area ahead of the President’s visit with officials of Nigeria security agencies including, Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy, Police and the State Security Service on guard.

The President is expected to be accompanied by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, Governors of Bauchi and Gombe States — Bala Mohammed and Inuwa Yahaya — as well as top government functionaries.
