The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Cross River State branch, has confirmed the release of the two kidnapped doctors and two others kidnapped along with them last week in the state.

The Chairman, Dr Felix Archibong, confirmed their freedom, noting that it was the efforts of the Cross River Government and the security agencies that led to the abductee’s freedom without ransom payment.

Persecondnews recalls that the NMA had over the weekend raised alarm on the kidnap of the doctors in Akampa Local Government Area and declared an indefinite Industrial action on Monday.

The action followed the expiration of 48 hours given to state government to secure their freedom.

The NMA chairman said the two medical doctors were released alongside two others in the early hours of the day unhurt.

He said in a statement:”I can confirm to you that my two members have been released. They were released with the two other persons abducted with them.

“I want to commend the state government and security agencies for their efforts. They have given us hope that Nigeria will get better.”

He gave the names of the released doctors as Joshua Omini of General Hospital, Ugep, and Ekpo Egong of General Hospital, Calabar.
