The Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, who was busted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over N80 billion fraud, has been suspended indefinitely from office.

In a letter dated May 18, 2022, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, directed Idris to proceed on indefinite suspension with immediate effect.

Persecondnews had reported that Idris was arrested by the anti-graft agency about three days ago and is still being quizzed for the alleged theft of the N80 billion which he had allegedly invested in real estates in Abuja and other parts of the country.

The AGF, it was learnt, had raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates.

The letter, a copy of which was given to Persecondnews on Wednesday, states among others that the suspension was to allow for “proper and unhindered investigation into the allegations in accordance with the Public Service Rules.”

It warned Idris to stay away from his office or call any official of the office during the period of suspension and until otherwise stated.

The letter also directed him to “strictly obey any instruction or directive that may be given him during his suspension” as stipulated in the extant rules.
