For doling out Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) as souvenir at her installation party, Lagos socialite, Ms Ogbulu Chindinma Pearl, is to cool her heels in prison for two years and three months.

She was arrested and arraigned on March 14, 2022 for distributing about 10 litres of petrol in branded jerry cans during her installation party at Havilah Event Centre, Lagos.

Persecondnews recalls that the video of the “petrol party” during the scarcity of the commodity occasioned by the importation of contaminated petrol in February went viral.

The Lagos State Government had ordered the arrest of Pearl and prosecuted her in court.

On Friday, the Lagos State Mobile Court sitting at Oshodi handed down the sentence.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Ogundare, sentenced the woman to three months imprisonment on the first count but with an option of N15,000 fine.

On counts two and three, the magistrate gave her one year imprisonment each.

She was, however, granted an option of N500, 000 fine on each count.

Ogundare said the prosecution had proved its case against the socialite beyond all reasonable doubts and therefore, found her guilty as charged.

The offence contravened Section 168 (1), 244 and 251(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 195 (2)(b) of the Environmental Management Protection Law of Lagos State 2017.
