Ahead of 2023 polls, a groundswell of support is being thrown behind a likely Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo’s presidency as successor to President Muhammadu Buhari. The latest endorsement and approval came from a former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, who said Osinbajo is the best person to lead Nigeria in 2023 among the various aspirants to the highest office in the country.

Babangida, while receiving the Osibanjo Grassroots Organisation at his Hill Top residence in Minna, the Niger state capital, on Thursday, said Osinbajo has great passion for Nigeria and can communicate with the different ethic groups in the country and inspire people.

“Osinbajo has great passion for Nigeria, he is one that can communicate with the country and inspire people among other qualities; he is the best person to lead Nigeria in 2023.

“I know the Vice President very well, he is a good man; a man who has conviction about Nigeria, a man who can communicate with the country and inspire people.

“Such a man is worthy person to work with, we need a good man to lead Nigeria, a man who has passion for this country’s economy; Nigeria is a good country; the people of Nigeria are good.

“You must learn to understand people and constant discussion is key. I want to convey my best wishes to the vice president through you and I want you to tell him to stay the course.

“I know it is not easy but he has the conviction. I wish him the best,” Babangida said.

He, however, urged Osinbajo to remain focused and resilient.

Babangida told the group that he accepted to speak to the members because of the person of the vice president and because of his conviction that “Osinbajo has what it takes to lead the country”.

Earlier, the National Convener of the organisation, Mr Ojo Foluso, expressed satisfaction with Gen. Babangida ‘s endorsement of Osinbajo.

“We came to consult the oracle and the oracle has spoken. IBB is an oracle because he understands Nigeria.”

He said the group would continue to mount pressure Osibanjo to indicate interest in the 2023 Presidential poll.

The leader of the team, Chief Emma Ejiofor, said the group was ready to work with counsel from prominent citizens like Babangida because of their sound knowledge and understanding of Nigeria.

“Nigeria is in dire need of leaders with conviction and passion for its development.”

Persecondnews.com recalls that the Emir of Daura, Dr Farouk Umar, had described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a noble and trustworthy person who keeps his promises.

The traditional ruler stated this last Saturday at the turbaning of Yusuf Buhari, son of President Muhammadu Buhari as Talban Daura and district head of Kwasarawa community.

The vice president witnessed the turbaning ceremony – a well-attended event graced by dignitaries from across the country.

Umar said: “We extend our appreciation to the representative of the president.

“He, the vice president, is a nobleman who keeps his promises and a trustworthy person who has so much patience and knows what to do at any given time.

“The vice president is a very good man; he is my favourite person. He is a very nice and honest man.”
