After two months of Twitter suspension in Nigeria, the Federal Government on Wednesday indicated that the issues would be resolved in few days or weeks and the suspension lifted.

“Everything will be ironed out with Twitter within a few days or weeks,”
Information and Culture Minister Lal Mohammed said.

He was fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Noting the anxiety of Nigerians on the issue, Mohammed said agreement had been reached in most areas of contention with Twitter.

According to him, progress has been made in resolving the impasse following series of meetings.

Persecondnews recalls that on June 5, 2021, the Federal Goverment had announced an indefinite ban on Twitter after it deleted tweets of President Muhammadu Buhari for warning the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that “they will be treated in the language they understand.”

Giving more details of the conditions given Twitter, the minister said most of them have been accepted.

“The areas still pending such as Twitter setting up an office, and having a Twitter staff of management cadre that will serve as the country representative, are still being discussed.

“The federal government’s committee negotiating with Twitter will meet on the agreement soon to make recommendations,” Mohammed said.
