The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday sauntered into the venue of the public hearing on the alleged multi-billion fraud and mismanagement at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and shed light on the Committee Chairman, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, recusing himself from the probe.

Gbajabiamila explained that the decision by Tunji-Ojo showed that the lawmakers were out to ensure a credible exercise.

The speaker had joined the House Committee on NDDC at the resumed public hearing at Room 231 of the Lower Chamber.

“The decision by the Chairman, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to recuse himself from the probe shows that as lawmakers we are out to ensure a credible exercise,’’ he said and thereafter took his leave.

However, the hearing had ended abruptly when the Acting Managing Director of NDDC, Prof. Daniel Pondei, collapsed amid heat of grilling and probing questions by the lawmakers.

Persecondnews reports that the public hearing was suspended for about one hour following the commotion after which the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, a former senator and Akwa Ibom state governor, took the floor with the oath administered on him.

The session ended at 4.25 pm.
