…death toll now 34
A 32-year-old male, one of the 256 Nigerians evacuated from the United Arab Emirate last week, has died of COVID-19-related complications in Lagos.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced on his official Twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi.

The deceased had a “severe underlying” illness, he said.

Abayomi tweeted: “Another #COVID19 infection-related death involving 32 years old male has been recorded.

“The deceased recently returned from Dubai with severe underlying health condition following the evacuation of Nigerians in foreign countries by @DigiCommsNG.”

He, however, did not disclose the health status of other Dubai returnees.

The commissioner announced that total number of COVID19 related deaths in the state now stands at 34.

According to Abayomi, 502 patients have so far recovered from the disease and have been discharged from various isolation centres in the state.

He urged residents to “remain committed to rules guiding COVID19 infection prevention regardless of relaxation of lockdown”.

PerSecondNews recalls that the voluntary returnees who were stranded in United Arab Emirate following COVID-19 lockdown by the country, arrived on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on May 6.

They were immediately placed under a 14-day quarantine at undisclosed hotels in Ikeja and Lekki.
