…three lecturers lost to death in 2 weeks
Barely two days after Professor Ife Jerome Elusiyan of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State was shot dead in Edo State, another senior lecturer of the university has died.
She is Dr Victoria Oluwaremilekun Adeniyi, who reportedly slumped and died on Sunday morning.
Adeniyi, who did not show any sign of sickness, slumped at 11.00 am in her residence, a source said.
Adeniyi, the Acting Head of Department of Dramatic Arts of the university, had on Saturday directed this year’s OAU convocation play.
The source said one of the deceased’s children had alerted another lecturer, who notified the university authorities.
On Dec. 13 (Friday), Elusiyan, a Professor of Paediatrics at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), was shot dead by some unknown gunmen on Benin-Ekpoma Road in Edo.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident, saying: “She was part of the academic procession of the grand finale of the university’s 44th convocation.’’
He said the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, had visited the university’s teaching hospital and ordered a post-mortem.
Persecondnews recalls that about two weeks ago, the university community was hit by the tragic death of one its lecturer, Dr Nicholas Igbokwe, who was found stone dead in his office on Saturday morning.
Igbokwe was a lecturer in the Physical and Health Education Department of the university.
