The Nigerian government says will build three new seaport aimed at easing congestions on Lagos port, Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, said to Bloomberg in an exclusive.

The three new facilities are likely to be cited in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Badagry and Akwa Ibom, according to Usman.

According to the NPA boss, the government is currently building a new deep-sea port and is considering two additional facilities to help ease congestion in Lagos state, the nation’s commercial capital.

Lagos ports currently handle about 80 percent of all shipping traffic in Nigeria, according to Bloomberg and a new facility being constructed in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos is seen as helping decogesting traffic in the country’s commercial hub.
