  • Hundreds of unemployed graduates could be affected
The home state of Abubakar Atiku, the presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), may likely lose its World Bank support in growing its food if it fails to pay up its counterpart funding in the ongoing national project,  Fadama Additional Financing, the national coordinator of the project, Tayo Adewunmi has said.
This could potentially prevent unemployed graduates under the Fadama Guys Scheme from benefiting from allowance payments once monies are disbursed, except the state quickly pays up, the national coordinator said.
“It is disheartening that Adamawa owes about N60 million counterpart fund which the government was yet to pay according to the signed project agreement.
“For  the AF II, which is an emergency intervention support by the Federal Government and World Bank, it is worrisome that the government has not contributed anything since the programme started,” Adewumi said through Peter Ajibaiye, who heads the Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the National Fadama Project Coordination Office, Abuja.
According to him, Adamawa is the only north eastern state that has failed to pay the counterpart contributions out of the six states ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency and this might force the World Bank to withdraw its support from the state.
