It was a dramatic turnaround for Clement Ebri, Chairman of the primary election panel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, has he declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu as winner of the exercise in the state.
Addressing a press conference Tuesday evening, Chief Clement Ebri, explained the confusion that trailed the exercise. He said elections are yet to begin.
Clement Ebiri said he was not aware any primary was held as all election materials brought from Abuja were still intact.
Mr Ebiri, appointed by the APC headquarters to oversee the Lagos governorship primary, said his committee was yet to commence the process.
Bowing to pressure from anxious allies, Chief Ebri abruptly reversed himself Wednesday as he announced Sanwo-Olu the winner of the elections.
Meanwhile, Akinwunmi Ambode has not conceded any defeat as primary election is yet to hold in Lagos State following guidelines, his group said.
“These include the usage of membership slips and membership cards by registered party members, as well as the adoption of secret ballot system which protects the electorate.
“The NWC came from Abuja with sufficient ballot papers which have yet to be distributed. As a loyal and responsible party member and a democrat, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is guided by the process announced by the party and shall await the new date of the governorship primary election,” said a statement read in part.
