A new generation Camry, which has so far sold more than 18 million units “across regions” since 2015 has been introduced to the Nigerian market via Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL).

The model, first introduced in 1982, has “undergone a total transformation and transition, from a proven sedan to one that pushes the boundaries of technology”  and is being introduced to the Nigerian market, Kunle Ade-Ojo, managing director of the car marking making company said at the unveiling of the car in Lagos.

The newly improved model, fitted with upgraded with  safety, comfort and high performance features now come in 2.5L and 3.5L engines and utilize the D-4S direct-injection system, Bunmi Onafowokan, General Manager, Corporate Services at Toyota Nigeria added.

This allows for selection of optimal injection method based on driving conditions to pack a powerful punch with enhanced fuel economy to boot, Bayo Olawoyin, company’s brand manager explained.

Some of the features in the new generation Camry include back monitor with the pedestrian detector, intelligent clearance sonar rear cross traffic auto brake, adaptive front lighting system, rear electric sunshade, rear electric reclining seats and electronic parking brake, according to Olawoyin.

“Camry’s newly developed direct shift 8-Speed automatic transmission improves acceleration from a stop, provides a smooth ride even at high speeds and helps enhance fuel efficiency.

“The three distinct available drive modes give you even more control. Sports mode indulges your spirited side with a sharper acceleration feel; Eco mode adjusts throttle input to maximize your efficiency. Normal mode blends fuel economy with performance. Thanks to this choice of drive modes, a perfectly tailored drive arrive with the push of a button,” the brand manager said.

According to him, the new 2.5L engine has improved performance by approximately 6% over the previous model, while the new model’s “high efficiency, high-powered next generation Dynamic Force Engine, powerful acceleration and new direct shift 8AT contribute to the car’s low fuel consumption.”

The interior of the car has been redesigned for roomier accommodations, especially for the rear occupants, while the seats were redesigned to increase comfort for all occupants.
