Despite flooding the premises of NAN last night with police to stop planned strike, staff of the agency in dozens embarked on demonstrations blocking major road leading to the airport.

The workers said all they have been paid in regards to their Duty Tour allowances is lip service after several months of attempts to speak with the NAN management.

The three unions, NUJ, AUCPTRE and RATTAWU representing members of staff had earlier written the Management given them a seven-day notice to address the union demands or they embark on a three-day warning strike.

The union demands include: implementation of Condition of Service that was last review 16 years ago, Payment of Promotion Arrears for 2012 and 2017 and payment of shortfall of promotion arrears of 2014, 2015and 2016

Others are payment of DTA and hotel allowances to staff that left their base to write the 2018 Promotion Examination in Lagos and Abuja and payment of repatriation allowances of foreign correspondents.

Also in the demands of the union are training of staff to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, payment of overtime arrears for drivers and arrears of Transportation Allowance for staff of editorial department.

Aggrieved workers alleged that NAN MD, Bayo Onanuga, brought security operatives to the  premises to prevent the strike

The union leaders said the management has not reached out to them since the ultimatum was issued.

The management has issued a circular that it will evoke no work no pay rule if people do not come to work.

Management rather than dialogue with the union, invited the Nigerian police to take over the premises of the agency to prevent the union from locking the premises, said the circular signed by Chairman-NUJ, YetundeBada, Secretary NUJ, Bakula Adewumi, Chairman-AUCPTRE, Suleiman Haruna,Secretary AUCPTRE, Uduak I.
