At least 5 killed as Police, butchers clash in Ibadan market

The Nigerian Police have clashed with butchers in the Bodija market in Ibadan, Oyo state, leaving no fewer than 5 persons dead and dozens with various degrees of injuries.

“We understand that at least two people were gunned down and there was an attempt to attack a police station, said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude.

Traders alleged the crisis was triggered by men of the police force, who released volleys of bullets to scare the traders, when they stormed the market yesterday morning.

“When the policemen arrived, they started shooting sporadically, which made thousands of traders scamper for safety.

“They wanted to forcefully relocate us to the new site at Moniya, said Muftau Ajani, a trader.
